Meridian Public School District

  • Project Location: Meridian, MS

  • DBES Role: Mechanical engineer of record

  • Complete HVAC renovation for 78,000 sqft technical center

  • New HVAC system includes heat-recovery VRF, DOAS, ventilation, and exhaust systems

  • VRF system includes 150 tons of capacity with 86 indoor units and 7 outdoor heat pumps

  • DOAS systems for indoor air quality

  • Ventilation and exhaust systems for technical labs

  • Status: Completion anticipated January 2024


HEERF Hinds Central Chilled Water Plant

Hinds Community College

  • Project Location: Raymond, MS

  • DBES Role: Mechanical engineer of record and prime professional

  • HVAC renovation of air-cooled chiller plant that serves multiple buildings on campus

  • Project includes new 270 ton air-cooled chiller, 15 new hydronic pumps, relocation of two existing air-cooled chillers, redesign of chilled water piping system

  • Status: Completion anticipated September 2023

  • Project Location: Raymond, MS

  • DBES Role: Mechanical engineer of record and prime professional

  • Renovation of 22,500 sqft facility with new VRF and DOAS HVAC system

  • VRF system includes heat recovery, 5 outdoor heat pumps and 32 indoor units

  • Environmental abatement of facility

  • Status: Completion anticipated September 2023

  • Renovation of 22,500 sqft facility with new VRF and DOAS HVAC system

  • VRF system includes heat recovery, 5 outdoor heat pumps and 32 indoor units

  • Environmental abatement of facility

  • Status: Completion anticipated September 2023


Ridgeland High School Control Upgrades

Madison County Schools

  • Project Location: Meridian, MS

  • DBES Role: Mechanical engineer of record and prime professional

  • Controls upgrade project for 170,000 sqft high school facility, which included AHUs, DOAS, FCUs BCUs, chillers, boilers, pumps

  • New DOAS systems for weight room and locker rooms

  • Status: Completion anticipated July 2023


Sheffield-Woolley Hall HVAC Renovations

Hinds Community College

  • Project Location: Raymond, MS

  • DBES Role: Mechanical engineer of record and prime professional

  • Renovation of 42,000 sqft dormitory with new VRF and DOAS HVAC system

  • VRF system includes 85 tons with 118 indoor units and 19 outdoor heat pumps

  • Environmental abatement of facility

  • Status: Completion anticipated June 2023


Meridian High School HVAC Controls ESSER II

Meridian Public School District

  • Project Location: Meridian, MS

  • DBES Role: Mechanical engineer of record

  • Controls upgrade project for 185,000 sqft high school facility, which included AHUs, RTUs, BCUs, VAV, chillers, boilers, pumps

  • New DOAS system for Activities Building

  • Status: Completed 2023


Greaves Hall HVAC Renovations

Hinds Community College

  • Project Location: Raymond, MS

  • DBES Role: Mechanical engineer of record and prime professional

  • Renovated 24,000 sqft dormitory with new VRF HVAC system

  • 51 tons of HVAC with 10 outdoor heat pumps and 26 indoor units

  • Status: Completed 2023


Hinds Cafeteria Kitchen and Dish Machine Renovations

Hinds Community College

  • Project Location: Raymond, MS

  • Expanded and renovated kitchen of the cafeteria with new carousel dish machine, exhaust system, ceiling, and new LED lights.

  • Status: Completed 2022


Marshall Hall HVAC Renovations

Hinds Community College

  • Project Location: Raymond, MS

    DBES Role: Mechanical engineer of record and prime professional

    Renovated 14,000 sqft dormitory with new VRF HVAC system

    39 tons of HVAC with 8 outdoor heat pumps and 14 indoor units

    Status: Completed 2022


Magnolia Speech School Bozeman Road Campus

Magnolia Speech School

  • Project Location: Madison, MS

  • DBES Role: Plumbing engineer of record

  • Provide plumbing design for 31,500 square foot new school building for special needs children

  • Plumbing design includes drinking fountains, sinks, lavatories, urinals, water closets, floor drains, water heater, and piping systems

  • Status: Completed 2022


Indoor Air Quality Project

Madison County Schools

  • Project Location: Madison County, MS

  • DBES Role: Mechanical engineer of record and prime professional

  • Provide and install mechanical air cleaners in all HVAC units across all 23 Madison County School’s campuses to reduce the transmissibility of Covid-19 and other pathogens

  • Bi-polar ionization devices are the basis of design

  • Status: Completed 2021


Madison District Office HVAC Upgrades

Madison County Schools

  • Project Location: Ridgeland, MS

  • DBES Role: Mechanical engineer of record and prime professional

  • Approximately 80,000 square feet in project scope

  • Replacement of 74 VAV terminal units while the building remains occupied

  • Provide for individual administration space temperature control 

  • Install new standby boiler to provide 100% backup in the event of boiler failure

  • Refurbish existing air-cooled chiller with new compressors and condenser fans

  • Replace RTU that reached its end of life with a new properly sized unit

  • Improve indoor air quality with the installation of mechanical air cleaners

  • Status: Completed 2021

  • Project Location: Greenville, MS

  • DBES Role: Mechanical engineer of record and prime professional

  • Approximately 65,000 square feet in project scope

  • Replacement of entire chilled water with new VRF system

  • Replace existing boilers with more efficient condensing boilers

  • Provide for individual classroom and administration space temperature control

  • Improve indoor air quality with the installation of mechanical air cleaners 

  • Status: Completed 2020

  • Gathered mechanical equipment information, condition, and performance data to determine if the equipment was a candidate for replacement by Johnson Controls’ Performance Contract Division

  • Assisted in the development of equipment replacement work scopes

  • Specified replacement equipment and developed construction plans for bidding

  • Reviewed project scope and performed a field walk through with contractors

  • Status: Complete 2018

  • Developed heating and cooling models of buildings to determine optimal capacities

  • Recommended equipment upgrades with energy savings and payback information

University of Mississippi

  • Audited existing systems with recommendations for improvements

  • Approximately 79,000 square feet in project scope

  • Replaced HVAC components and pneumatic controls systems with direct digital controls

  • Provide better space temperature control

  • Upgraded supply and return air fans on 6 air handling units to increase comfort and save energy

  • Status: Completed 2018

Grenada USP 797 Pharmacy Renovations

University of Mississippi Medical center

  • Provided the design to upgrade the Grenada Hospital Pharmacy to meet the new compounding guidelines of USP 797

  • Retrofitted the current system to provide adequate air changes per hour and room pressurization

  • Provided construction administration for project

  • Status: Completed 2018

The Hackett-Bower Clinic

Magnolia Speech School, Jackson, MS

  • Utilized variable refrigerant heat pump technology to provide controls to teachers in classrooms.

  • Installed energy recovery ventilation air to reduce energy costs


Commissioning and Retro-Commissioning

  • Completed Retro-Commissioning of Medical Assurance Company of Mississippi (MACM)

  • MACM is an approximately 15,000 square foot facility

  • Through the Retro Commissioning process inefficiencies were discovered in the building construction and HVAC system

  • Multiple measures were taken to correct these inefficiencies


Energy Audits

  • Experience related to the requirements of Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 energy audits

  • The energy audits consist of utility analysis, calculations, energy simulations, life cycle cost analysis and documentation

  • Identification of Energy Conservation Measures (ECM)

  • Development of Facility Improvement Measures (FIM)
